FLAVOUR, PASSION, TRADITION
ENJOY LIFE, DRINK RESPONSIBLY
“Il mallo”, the walnut hull: everything starts from here, from the green fruit. Rich in fragrance, essential oils, active ingredients and vitamins, a fleshy shell to be picked when still unripe.
The bright green colour struck Stefano that day.
The intense fragrance that the picked and cut fruit left on his hands convinced him: after a lifetime spent in the world of liquors, in that instant Stefano Freno decided to dedicate himself to making Nocino.
By tradition female hands pick the unripe walnuts from the branches of the trees. A ritual whose origin is lost in legend and takes place on a designated date: only on the night of St. John, in the hours elapsing between June 23rd and 24th, can the best fruits be gathered.
Female hands take up the inheritance left by the father: first Giovanna, the daughter, then Roberta, the granddaughter, carry on the family business with passion. The recipe they guard, handed down from generation to generation, is rooted in their land: only Modena brings the precious infusion to life.
After they are cut into four parts, the first step for making the brown elixir is to steep the walnuts in alcohol. A careful process, almost a rite, which allows the hulls to macerate slowly. Not even a drop of the precious infusion is lost during the most important step, pressing.
Ambition, values, know-how handed down over generations: the two women put all their time, effort and energy into the company. They have decided to dedicate their lives to what is not only a passion but also a business.
